The college received permission from MCI for the undergraduate course in 1961. In the year 1999, the number of seats for the MBBS program was increased from 100 to 150 students. In the academic year 2013-14, MCI Approved 150 - 200 seats for the MBBS Program.

The global alumni association of Gandhi Medical College, continues to support the Medical College and Hospital in various academic activities and also in providing donations to enhance infrastructure at the Medical College and Hospital.
Provides Free Hearing Screening Services for children admitted to NICU and PostNatal Ward
Manages the patient attendants shelter facility at Gandhi Hospital
Facilitates volunteer engagement in various areas in the hospital. Develops and Implements Health4All, the Free and Open Source Hospital Information System. Donation of necessary biomedical equipment in some of the areas of the hospital.
